G-77 will participate in the exhibition Emergence taking place May 21 - July 28, 2008.

GI SEED AND TIME CAPSULE

Our proposal is an interactive installation. Referencing the Svalbard Global Seed Vault, the G-77 will gather seeds from Governor's Island's indigenous plants and trees (such as Hickory, Oak, and Chestnut) and vacuum-seal them in waterproof bags to be placed in an archival acrylic globe. The globe will be housed in the center of a 3’ x 5’ table that will have additional space for a scroll of paper on which participants can write a message to those who unearth the capsule in the future. Messages can be advice, warnings, prayers, or simply a record of what is happening in our world today. When the exhibition is over, the scroll will be placed in the capsule (along with the seeds). The G-77 hopes to obtain permission to bury the capsule on the grounds of Governor's Island.
